CLE Cigars: A Storied Past
What lies behind the name CLE is no secret. The initials stand for the company's founder Christian Luiz Eiroa, a well-known figure in the tobacco industry. Together with his father, Julio, he transformed the once-hidden gem Camacho into a globally recognized brand.
The highlight of this success story was the sale to the Oettinger Davidoff Group. Rumor has it that the family Eiroa received a substantial sum. While this has never been confirmed, speculation suggests that others might have retired on such earnings.
Not Christian, though. He initially stayed with Camacho under its new ownership and worked for the Swiss conglomerate Davidoff, taking on representative roles before returning to cigar production with CLE.
A Fresh Start with CLE: Christian L. Eiroa
After selling the family-owned factory and Camacho, the Eiroa family established a new cigar factory, El Aladino, in Danlí.

Named after an old cinema that once belonged to the family, CLE was the first project Christian realized on his own. Today, Eiroa is also part of the portfolio. The family's proven quality has led even brands like Asylum to have their cigars produced here.

Today, CLE offers a wide selection of series. The Corojo line features the same wrapper that once made Camacho successful. With the Connecticut line, Christian ventures into new territory, as it is not a Honduran puro.

With the Prieto and Chele lines, CLE also embraces Nicaraguan tobaccos. "Prieto" means dark and refers to the Connecticut Broadleaf, while "Chele" means light or blond. The anniversary edition 25th Anniversary celebrates Christian's 25-year career. For those who can't decide, the Sampler offers four different robusto formats.
