Esteban Carreras Cigars – From Cuba to Estelí

The roots of Esteban Carreras go back to the 1980s, when the namesake cigar maker learned the art of tobacco refinement in Cuba. After founding his brand in 1996 in the Dominican Republic, he moved production to Estelí, Nicaragua. There, Tabacalera Carreras S.A. was established – an independent factory where traditional rolling techniques are combined with Nicaraguan tobacco to create cigars with authentic character.

Under the leadership of Craig Cunningham, the brand was established in the U.S. and has enjoyed growing popularity there for over two decades. Full control over cultivation, production, and distribution ensures consistently high quality and a distinctive profile.

In 2024, Esteban Carreras made its debut at the InterTabac trade fair in Dortmund. Thanks to German importer Kopp Cigars, the cigars are now also available in Europe. Once an insider tip, the brand has become a sought-after name worldwide.

Tabacalera Carreras

All cigars are handcrafted in the brand’s own factory in Estelí. New lines are introduced only after careful aging, with the tobaccos often resting for years to meet the brand’s high standards. This approach emphasizes quality and consistency over short-term trends.

Esteban Carreras cigars are known for medium- to full-bodied blends made with Nicaraguan tobacco. A variety of wrappers and formats – from Lancero to Gordo – provide a wide range of choices for different preferences.
