Don Diego Cigars: Dominican Longfillers with Tradition
For over fifty years, Don Diego Cigars have been among the established brands in the Dominican premium longfiller segment. Their success is based on consistent quality and a rich tradition of craftsmanship. Originally produced in the Canary Islands, the brand was developed in the 1960s by Cuban exile Pepe Garcia. Today, these fine cigars are crafted at the renowned Tabacalera de Garcia.
After the embargo against Cuban cigars, Don Diego found a new home in the Canary Islands before production was eventually moved to the Dominican Republic. There, the expertise of Jose Seijas, an experienced master blender, ensures consistently high quality. Over the years, these hand-rolled cigars have received numerous awards.
The Don Diego Cigar Range
The Don Diego Classic line impresses with a bright, silky-smooth Connecticut Shade wrapper. The blend of Dominican tobaccos with a touch of Brazilian filler results in a mild yet flavorful smoking experience. Notes of nuts, pepper, wood, and a hint of honey define its flavor profile. Thanks to excellent craftsmanship, these cigars offer an even burn and effortless handling.
For true aficionados, stylish accessories are also available. A particular highlight is the Don Diego Ashtray, adorned with the brand's distinctive logo, making it a refined addition to any collection.
Design and Character of Don Diego Cigars
The elaborate cigar band of Don Diego cigars is a true eye-catcher. Its heraldic design is reminiscent of traditional emblems: two horses flank a shield, possibly depicting a cigar, topped with a knight’s helmet. The motif is framed by tobacco leaves and the stylized inscription "Don Diego."
The Tabacalera de Garcia, one of the world’s largest factories for hand-rolled cigars, is part of the international tobacco company Altadis USA. In addition to Don Diego, it produces well-known brands such as Santa Damiana, Vega Fina, as well as, for the U.S. market, Montecristo, Romeo y Julieta, H. Upmann, and Trinidad.
