Bruno Nuttens – Pipes and Pipe Accessories

Bruno Nuttens Pipes: The Path to Perfection

Bruno Nuttens, a Belgian, has been living and working in France for several years. A passionate pipe smoker, he discovered his love for pipe making in 2012 when he acquired a collection of old pipes. He restored these pipes with great dedication, teaching himself many of the intricate techniques required to repair vintage pipes.

In 2013, he visited the traditional French "pipe mecca" of St. Claude, where he met Pierre Morel, an experienced freehand pipe maker. He learned much about the art of pipe making from him and acquired old machinery to use in his work. These machines had been stored unused for decades in the warehouses of St. Claude.

The Pipes of Bruno Nuttens

In 2016, Bruno Nuttens began producing his own pipes. To further refine his craft, he completed an internship with Danish pipe legend Tom Eltang, where he encountered a new philosophy focused more on aesthetics. This knowledge and his constant drive for improvement have shaped his work ever since.

Bruno Nuttens Series Pipes
Elegance and classic design: Bruno Nuttens Series Pipes

For several years now, Bruno Nuttens has been working independently as a pipe maker, leaving his former career in IT behind. His bold step has paid off, as his success speaks for itself. Thanks to his presence on various platforms, including social media, he reaches pipe enthusiasts worldwide.

Craftsmanship at Its Finest

His pipes bear a distinctive signature. Some models are reminiscent of Paolo Becker's delicate "spaghetti shanks," while others draw inspiration from classic Italian designs. His "Bings" – long billiards with slender shanks – are particularly sought after. Although they do not accommodate 9mm filters, they are often compatible with 6mm filters.

His pipes are also perfectly adapted to the increasingly popular Gizeh activated carbon filters. For 9mm filters, he crafts appropriately larger models.

Handmade, Heritage, Vintage: All Bruno Nuttens Pipes

Bruno Nuttens offers pipes in various quality levels, crafted in different ways:

  1. Handmade: Pipes with entirely free-formed bowls and hand-cut mouthpieces, showcasing his full creative range.
  2. Heritage: Pipes made from 30- to 60-year-old pre-turned bowls, sourced from a large stockpile in St. Claude.
  3. Vintage: Pipes made from even older Algerian briar of the finest quality, often adorned with historic silver embellishments.

French Pipe Philosophy

A defining feature of all Bruno Nuttens pipes is their functionality, which always takes precedence. The French philosophy he adheres to emphasizes "substance over show." His pipes are primarily tools for the perfect enjoyment of tobacco, with aesthetics playing a complementary role. The age and quality of the briar – the more aged, the better – are also central elements. His pipes are also affordable, with prices starting at around €130–140 and going up to a maximum of €500.

We are delighted to feature this talented pipe maker and his rare philosophy in our range. Try one of his pipes – you’ll be thrilled!
