Musicians like Miles Davis and Till Brönner have put their own spin on this piece. The name also frequently appears in pop music – from the Beatles and Madness to Linkin Park.
But let’s set the musical references aside. Birds are widely recognized as a source of inspiration, not only in art but also for a young cigar brand from the Dominican Republic.
Birds and Vitolas: Blackbird Cigars
The boutique label Blackbird from the Dominican Republic names its cigars after various bird species. This creative naming reflects the philosophy of the label: unique, distinctive, and unforgettable.
But the concept goes far beyond inventive names. Particularly exciting was the brand’s launch in Germany. An unconventional approach was taken: instead of relying on internal expert opinions, selected aficionados tested the first samplers and shared their feedback. The result is a portfolio of three blends, each offered in two formats.
Quality from the Dominican Republic: Blackbird Cigars in Focus
Blackbird is a young label that was first introduced by founder José Santana at the IPCPR in 2019. Of the original six blends, three made it to the international market. These were rated by German testers with scores ranging from 70 to 80 points.
