Alec Bradley Cigars: From a Vision to a Global Brand
Alan Rubin had a clear vision when he decided to establish his own cigar line, which would later gain worldwide recognition under the name Alec Bradley. Armed with a detailed implementation plan and unwavering determination, he ventured into the cigar industry.
The 1990s, however, presented a challenging time. The declining market for cigar manufacturers made it difficult to gain a foothold. Rubin fought to keep his Alec Bradley Cigar Company afloat, standing firm despite immense pressure to cease production or sell the business.

His first major attempt, the "Bogey’s Stogies" cigar line in the early 2000s, resulted in a loss of over $60,000. The market was oversaturated, and demand plummeted, further jeopardizing Alec Bradley’s future. Yet Rubin remained persistent and sought a solution.
From Crisis to Legend
The turning point came in late 2000 when Rubin met experienced cigar maker Ralph Montero. The two complemented each other perfectly: Montero brought valuable expertise and excellent connections, including the renowned tobacco grower Henke Kelner from the Dominican Republic. Together, they steered Alec Bradley toward success, with the first positive results appearing soon after.
Alec Bradley: The Harmony of Tradition and Innovation
In 2007, Alec Bradley launched the Tempus line, a complex and bold cigar that marked a departure from their previous mild and creamy style. The international breakthrough came in 2011 when the Prensado Churchill was named Cigar of the Year by Cigar Aficionado, a milestone for Rubin and his team.
With a philosophy of making every cigar a special experience, Rubin developed a globally recognized brand. His credo: “An hour with a cigar should be the best hour of the day.”
A Success Story in Numbers
Today, Alec Bradley produces two to three million cigars annually, making it one of the leading mid-sized manufacturers in the industry. The brand has been repeatedly ranked among the top 25 cigar brands worldwide by Cigar Aficionado. Alec Bradley stands for top-notch quality and remarkable adaptability to market trends, such as the growing popularity of Gordo-format cigars.
The Texas Lancero, known for the longest smoking duration in the lineup, is just one example of the brand’s versatility.
